On the Road in Eastern Montana
By Jon Tester
United States Senator for Montana
Today I’m back at the Senate after a very productive weekend on the road in Eastern Montana.
It’s always good to get back home where we listen to each other’s points of view without the partisan bickering and interrupting that’s all too common in Washington. Montana is over a thousand miles away from D.C. on the map, and light years ahead when it comes to treating neighbors like neighbors.
Support for community truly is a part of our way of life in Montana. Friday I saw that up close in Billings at the Veterans Stand Down, an event that turns out volunteers to help homeless veterans.
I heard from many men and women who served honorably. I’m working hard in the Senate to make sure we live up to the promises we made to our veterans, especially folks living in rural America.
Just a couple weeks back the Senate passed my Rural Veterans Health Care Improvement Act. It permanently secures travel reimbursement levels for disabled veterans and will help the VA recruit and retain health care providers in rural America.
Later in the weekend I made my way east to Terry, Hysham, and Miles City. We all know springtime in Miles City means the Bucking Horse Sale. Click here to see some pictures from the road.
In two weeks, I’ll be back in the neighborhood on June 3rd for my Treasure State Export Seminar in Billings. It’s a chance for manufacturers, service providers, and ag producers to learn more about sales opportunities overseas. It’s a great opportunity to create jobs and grow Montana’s economy. If you run a small business or have a hand in any other part of our local economy, I hope you can make it. Please click here to RSVP.
Coming up this week, I expect us to make real progress on legislation to bring accountability and needed reform to Wall Street. As we keep pushing forward, I’ll be working to do what’s right for Main Street -- our community banks, small businesses, credit unions, consumers, and farmers and ranchers.
I heard a lot of good information from folks on the ground in Montana over the weekend. Please don’t hesitate to send your thoughts along by email or by calling 866-554-4403.
